Coheed & Cambria - Blood Brothers: Which one of these don't belong?

Alright guys. I have to vent a little. First off, I saw the Coheed & Cambria show last night as well, and I must say, they seem to get a little better every time I see them. As my friend Michelle and I have noticed, it seems Claudio tends to lose his breath frequently while singing, rather allowing the crowd to finish stanzas in a verse, which is cool, by all means, but too much of it, and it begins to get old. But last night, I noticed he could actually keep up with his breathing to singing ratio! Wow! And when he does, watch out!
They performed a great show, starting out with the first four songs off of the new album... for those of you who may have never heard of them, think a cross between some lofty prog art school band who thought they were on a different plane than everyone else, those bands you used to listen to in high school that had catchy tunes and choruses that got stuck in your head but you were a little ashamed of telling anyone you listened to, and a man who quite possibly just got his nuts hacked off with rusty saw. Yea... anyways, they played a good sampling of their hits off of all three of their albums, including Devil in Jersey City and Everything Evil off of Second Stage Turbine, Blood Red Summer and Favour House Atlantic off of Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth, and of course, new material from their latest - Good Apollo. But anyone will tell you, one of the biggest highlights is witnessing the epic encore they often do of their song Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth:3 - if you want to see a crowd work into a frenzy and belt out every word to a song, watch this! They ended the night with a lengthy jam, one that would make Floyd or the Moody Blues proud!
But even with all of that, the night was slightly dampered, not by high-priced beer, or shitty sound (Gypsy Tea Room is a GREAT place to see a band like this - quite small with good sound), but rather by the shitty ass crowd who happened to be attending... To begin with, the opening bands for Coheed were mewithoutyou, Dredg, and the Blood Brothers.... now, looking at that lineup, you can pick out fairly quickly which one doesn't really belong. For those of you who may not have heard of the Blood Brothers, they are truly one of a kind. They specialize in giving the viewer a full on assault of the ears with their trademark chaotic sound - a mishmash of high screams, howls, wailing guitar, pounding drums, dancebeats, and catchy melodies, with some great lyrics to boot! However, as awesome as I think these guys are, the city of Dallas obviously doesn't agree.... For someone who enjoys different styles of music, it's hard to listen to a band you like getting booed, and people yelling shit at the stage. That, in my opinion, is one of the rudest things you can do... so you don't like the music - shut the fuck up, and let them play. They'll be off soon - go drink a beer and get the fuck away from people who WANT to see them. The band continued to flip people off in the crowd who wouldn't shut up. Johnny Whitney at one point cussed out a guy in the crowd in the guise of wanting to make out with him - "Come over here and give me a big old kiss you fucking piece of shit!" Ahh, I couldn't have said it better myself - kill them with kindness, as it's said! But then again, what am I talking about? This is DALLAS we're talking about afterall.... And whoever decided to put these two bands on the same bill needs to have something examined... They're two completely different styles of music... yes, both are fairly progressive in the approach, just different in sound and obviously fan base. The crowd was there to see Coheed. Hopefully, this won't sway the Blood Brothers from returning to Dallas, because believe it or not, there are actually people who appreciate interesting, chaotically beautiful music!
The show on the whole was really good though, so it wasn't a complete disappointment! Like I said, Coheed rocked my socks off, and as for the Blood Brothers, I just have to look forward to the next visit, preferably someplace they're headlining! I guess it's just more reason to miss Austin!
